courses

Couturier, Juan Carlos Quintana, is committed to the art of crafting beautiful and quality clothing. The couturier has created five different modules, with the ethos of keeping the antique craftsmanship of couture alive.

On the courses, students will be offered the opportunity to learn at our studio, as well as experience the real work environment of an Atelier. The modules will allow students to acquire key skills needed to create couture garments; learning to produce their own patterns, select fabrics, as well as the traditional way of cutting and marking the fabric. Students will be encouraged to develop and bring life to their own designs with the help of Juan Carlos Quintana. The couturier will assist students with the selection of the right couture finish for each of their designs, including how to press and hand-make finishes on a garment. These are all important components, hand finishes being over 75% of couture garments.

The courses will consist of five students, providing each the chance to focus and develop their individual designs. The small class setting will also permit students to maximize their experience and acquire knowledge, not only from our house, but also each other.

Not only will students learn Quintana's haute couture techniques on their selected course, but also build on their unique skill set and ideas, extending beyond the duration of the project. Depending on the course students decide to take, they will learn specific techniques and how to work with and attain certain fabrics, which will greatly assist their future endeavours. Those wishing to attend the course will also find the experience immensely beneficial, not only in the practical sense, but in seeking guidance, direction and support for future aspirations.

my couture wedding dress

This course is for the bride who wants to make her own dress or any interested individual who would like to learn how to make a couture wedding dress. The course is about Juan Carlos Quintana guiding the bride step by step to bring her wedding vision to life, from making her own pattern, fitting it, and learning how to make the dress from start to finish. Even to details such as learning how to pack it properly! It is a beautiful experience where the individual will learn all the techniques involved with creating a wedding dress.

The courses will consist of a 4 hour class per week during a 15 week period. Because of the level of intricacy and amount of detail involved, this course needs to be dedicated to one student only. It will involve finding a good machinist, which Quintana Couture can supply you with. In the case of the individual wishing to undertake the machine seaming themselves (recommended only for those with good machine sewing skills) the garment will need to be transported inside a suitable suitcase.
